Whenver a new medium is established for marketing a free-for-all ensues with tons of new ideas and ways to leverage the medium. Some of those ideas are good and have staying power. Others are short sighted and end up labeled as spam. Unfortunatley some good ideas get labeled as spam as well so if this happens to you just suck it up and grow a pair while you let the flames roll of your back. This article was my attempt to show the internet marketer that the free-for-all period was over and that a new set of standards has come into play regarding the Web 2.0 marketing world. Enjoy the article and coment on new rules and standards you see taking shape as well.
Web 2.0 and the varied technologies that accompany it offer businesses as well as customers opportunities to reach out to each other in ways that were never before possible. It has, in effect, turned the old marketing establishment on its head and created a new world that is characterized by horizontal innovation, absolute transparency and freedom of expression.
The internet is changing at an amazing speed. Understanding and embracing the new rules for Web 2.0 is imperative for any online business to survive and thrive in the next century.
The following 5 rules will help you grasp the Web 2.0 marketing phenomenon.
Rule #1- Maneuver community participation
Connecting with others who share a common interest and interacting with them develops long lasting bonds, not to mention loyalty. Studies show that attempting to directly influence customers has less impact than providing them the necessary support to interact with each other through activities on their brand community. This, in turn, could drastically increase their level of loyalty and commitment.
Marketers need to use this principle as the basis for their online communities. Customers who are already loyal to the brand’s products or services will automatically be drawn to the brand’s online community and participate in group activities.
This increases their likelihood of remaining attached to the community longer, buying more often and also recommending it to non-members.

A Web 2.0 experience should be so user friendly, intuitive and logical that the user is using the service effortlessly in a seamless fashion. That is how you get the user to execute a most wanted response by providing an experience described above. In order to get the kind of experience mentioned above – much time will have to be dedicated to understanding user behavior and employing the most logical efforts to make the site fluid.
Levon,
You are right on the ball with this comment. Thank you for contributing. It is truly a unique position when you have direct interaction with marketing targets in a real time fashion. You are also correct about the time spent identifying and modifying efforts to create a fluid and seamless experience. How much time do you spend working on your approaches everyday?
Hi David,
It's a full time job creating fluid internet environments. I dedicate between 8-10 hours each day on it.

That is very interesting. I also spend at least 8 hours a day developing content and syndicating it. I also spend a ton of my time commenting and engaging people in conversations about my articles/videos and others as well. Do you have a website? Shoot me a link and I am curious.
